Zartaxis, I see the numbers but...I'm not entirely sure of the direction. You mention the damage as if it's low but seem to indicate that either Staff or melees are falling behind.

Could you clarify slightly?



The staff should have a 20% chance to sympathetic proc a nuke based on the rank. At the top end with UW9, a DPS caster should be utterly fearsome. The click is nice, but it isn't the main source of DPS (just like the other UWs). With T5 and above spells, the UW should be highly useful. The only spells that were somewhat excluded were the instant cast spells (as the DPS would simply be TOO high).

Ah damn I always forget about the sympathetic procs.  Without those I felt the damage increase was too low.  I will have to get one and play with it to see what those procs look like.

By not allowing instant casts do you mean that so people couldnt spam say a manastone and have each cast proc?

First off, Thanks a lot for creating a caster UW.  When I suggested it to you the other day I had no idea it would be live in less than a week.  I love that you guys put this into effect and it is totally a step in the right direction for allowing casters to sort of compete with melee augs.

Now to numbers.  I have a t5 wizard with a UC.  He hits for about 800k with Yama's II.   In the 18 seconds the buff is active he can get off 4 casts if the timing is right.  Of those four casts at a 33% twincast rate he will on average twincast 1.33 times.  So in that minute cooldown before he can recast the buff he will add 1,064,000 damage (800k x 1.33) to his dps.  His extra damage per second then becomes 17,733 (1,064,000 / 60 seconds).  Now that is just with the first 3 UW ranks.  The second level of the buff would double that amount to 35k more dps.  Also a crit would increase that damage but the crit rate isn't high enough to count on a crit every time.

If we are trying to keep these sort of comparable to the melee versions then at the t5 and below level at least they are falling way behind.  I am not sure what t6-8 damage would look like as I don't have toons that high yet.  This is also only for a wizard.  Other caster classes would be far behind wizards in damage.

Please take this as constructive feedback with data and not as a complaint or criticism.  Hunter had said he might be increasing the stats on it so I hoped he might take a second look at the buff.

Ah I figured out why I didn't even notice that ancient call of power was increasing spell damage.  It only does 30% and doesn't stack with curious creation (25%) or Ro's Flaming Familiar (25%) so that entire song is increasing spell damage by 5%.

I don't have curious creation II yet but it does 50% so with that buff on Hate your wizzies should not see any spell damage increase.

Song and spell bonuses should be separate. Even so, it's 30% of BASE damage. If spell does 100 normally (but 500 with UC), you would only see 130 (or 530 UCed) damage.

Yeah I understand how its 30% of the base.  That doesn't get around the fact that once you are in t5 and have curious creation 2 the song is useless for wizards.  And before t5 it is only 5%.  Maybe I am crazy, but I did test it and those were the results.  Maybe familiar buffs are coded oddly so they don't stack with the bard song.

It might not be a bad idea to make it a shield (no back slot) for casters.  That way they don't give up an epic click which other classes don't have to do with the 1h UWs.  No melee class would give up a secondary slot for a shield instead of a weapon so that wouldnt be an issue and you could make the click effects whatever you want.

Bards are okay at the moment but I wouldn't say great.  Mine is only in t5 at the moment but the AC spell and TB3 are sort of the only good songs they have I think.  The increased spell damage one doesnt work, the haste ones dont work, the attack ones cap pretty easily, the regen one is okay but the clicky effect sort of makes it moot.   They do get to use NS augs though so they can dps with a sorc41 alright.

Thanks for the increase.  Would you mind thinking about the abyss drop rate a little bit?  My last couple of full clears have gotten 1 essence each.  That is with 30+ boss kills and 400 trash mobs.  At 4 hours per clear that makes Abyss a pretty large bottleneck for essences.

For now stick with the anger augs on your warrior.  When t2 was the top I had 4 epics and I kept 2 with AE augs and 2 with single target.  You could probably get away with doing 1 single target aug for agro and the rest AE.

DPS augs are for your melee attackers and with sorc charms they will increase your group's dps a lot.

I used to make approx 300k in gems + bags.  I did a run earlier where I got under 40k in plat and no bags.  Small sample size, I know.

I do love the change but we should tweak the numbers.

I am not sure how that group died so fast on floor 3.  I was able to solo my way to floor 4 with a t3 geared warrior.  I do have UW and SoA though for resists.

I think it has to do with  "waking" the instance up.   If you log a char in to the nexus and then go into your guild instances you can log a char straight into them.
