Title: spell effects unknown db string

ive been trying to get the spell files right for a couple days now..... i think i got them where i see the right spells but when i try to see the effects mainly on epics and gear im wearing under the effects id says unknown dbstring blah blah blah is this normal ?
if not can someone please help tell me what im doing wrong.

im using a fresh UF install with all the missing files supposedly. im not having any trouble on the hidden forest server. ive tried to get help in game i geuss everyone is to busy or dont want to be bothered.

p.s. i have two eq UF folder one for here and one for THF server

Have you downloaded the EZ spells file? Look to the left under EZ server downloads

yes and ive applied them over and over ... i can now see the spells just the spell effects on everything i look at says unknow db string

Are you using the Titanium spell file or the SoD spellfile? You should be using SoD spellfile if playing on Underfoot client.

Easiest way to tell if you did the spellfile right, go to where you installed EQ (or the EZ Server folder), open up the spells_us.txt, and scroll down. Although they are HUUUUUUGE strings, each ability is one line. Last ability should read:

If it does not, you have not extracted the spellfile correctly.

yes i figured that was what i was doing wrong so i deleted the folder installed again then just used the sod spell file im still seeing unknown db string  when i look at the effects not the spell names those seem fine. so i deleted again and im reinstalling im not sure what to do next. since you just said that im out of ideas

i repeat i think im seeing the spells right its the effects (discription of the clicky spells on gear) that is showing up as unknown db string

everything else seems to be right

Have you restarted the game since updating file? You can't update the spellfile and keep playing.

Also, the spell effects seem ok to you because that's all you know. If they spell effect was set to make fire, but you saw ice...with 'Unknown DB' the ice seems correct but you have no knowledge of it being different.

Try opening the spellfile IN YOUR EVERQUEST DIRECTORY and scrolling to last line. If it doesn't have the giant string in my last post: please try extracting again.

yes i am not even in game when i make the changes ... i just looked at that last line in spellfile us and it is as you say it should be.

Where is the file being extracted to? (ex: C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest)

Are you opening the eqgame.exe in THAT folder?

no i make a shortcut add patchme and move it else where if thats what you mean. i get in game just fine

Thanks for that tidbit, and thanks to the original poster.  Since merging the UF client on top of Titanium, I've had very few problems other than this one.  I thought I had done a fairly thorough job of mopping up but failed to address this one specific file.  The only problem I have left now is sometimes links are concatenated, but I've since learned that happens when someone creates them from a differing client (not sure anything can be done, but I'm too appreciative that this all works to really care).

Edit:  I had a few different versions of this file.  The one that ended up working best was 549KB.  There is one that is slightly larger but apparently does not have info for the Drakkin race.  

Re-edit:  So this dbstr_us.txt still isn't good, and apparently it's supposed to be much larger than any I have.  All my searching just leads to others referencing replacing this file with one from SoD+ but not where to actually get it (other than patching Live).  I even found a raw, cached version for Everquest.com (apparently still cached from when you could patch without signing up), but that one still isn't good.  If anyone can point me in the direction of getting the proper dbstr_us.txt file, please let me know.  I can always sign up for a trial, but this is using a nuclear bomb to kill a fly.  I'll do it if I have to, though I'm hoping someone can PM a Dropbox link or something.

This is from live from a few months ago.  It isn't perfect, but really none of them are since the only file that actually matched that client is the one that's broken in the steam download.  I don't really notice them anymore, but you may see some misnamed AA or missing strings there since those AA no longer exist on live.
