Title: Beginners Guide to Quick & Easy Cash (Platinum)
Post by: swamphy on May 24, 2010, 02:06:36 pm
Ok, I'm writing this because it would have helped me when first starting out and I still see this question raised from time to time in OOC...

There really is not much use for large amounts of Plat on EZserver, but when first starting you may want some Tinkerers Bags (5k), a Pegasus Cloak (1k) and Jboots (1k) and at level 60 you will want your Newbie Item V2.0 (10k).  [all items from Newbie Merchant, prices are approximations)

Here is how to get those amounts in 15 minutes or so:

High level players often build alts quickly by power leveling them. They will pull massive amounts of mobs and kill them in one nice neat HUGE pile for you to come loot.

****edit****
Thank you to my favorite warrior Tacl (who plays his toon quite well btw) for pointing out this very nice feature (which I didn't know about). No Drop and low value items can really slow you up when looting piles. Now you can just ignore them.

Doing this will make you 5x faster at looting piles of mobs:
Type
"/hidecorpse looted"
This will make corpses disappear from view after you have opened the loot table once and closed it. (you can turn it back off by typing /hidecorpse none).
****edit*****

The best place I have found for grabbing fast cash is City of Mist, where massive amounts of valuable gems are dropped. Seek out the 'Non-Custom Zone Teleporter' and say citymist. I do recommend you do the newbie quest and keep the clicky invis hotkeyed. You wouldn't want to interfere by getting yourself killed. (http://ezserver.online/forums/index.php?topic=324.0)

And on that note, always be polite. ALWAYS ASK BEFORE LOOTING. If they seem to want to loot their own stuff, move on. There's millions of plat rotting all over the server.

Other zones good for picking up some cash:
Mistmoor
Plane of Fear
Velks
BoTh

I'd say velks is my #2 pick, but with the level restriction City of Mist is my favorite. If nobody seems to be PLing, here check another zone or wait a few minutes.

Hope this helps someone getting started on EZserver. It's a fun place to play.

ps. The one thing i know for sure is that I don't know everything. Please feel free to post helpful thoughts or idea's on this subject.

You wont be able to do this at level one but in velketor up where the kobalds are, those mobs will drop 2 to 4 diamonds on each corpse. Sometimes they drop blue diamonds but mostly just reg diamonds. Which if i remember right is worth around 100 plat per diamond. Heh its where i went to get money to buy items i needed for grandmaster items for roa

dont really need pegasus cloak or jboots...
You get SOW from buff bot anyways and you level up so fast anyways that you get way better gear than these... unless you got money up front for them dont waste money on those

for levi you can get the illusions from LDoN 6. Imp, Air Elemental, etc... course its not exactly noob friendly

Thanks for the additions. All good points, but let me reiterate, this is a "Beginners" guide. I've watched many people slipping around velks trying to get to the upper kobold camp, falling off like noobs, when all they had to do was grab a Pegasus Cloak and lev on over.

When you've lost your SoW and are on the way back to refresh or don't want to leave your camp, Jboots are handy to have.

I get the feeling people quickly forget what it's like to be new on this server when they've got multiple 70+ toons running around.

dulak drops diamons like candy few hours leveling from 30-60 i got 60+ diamonds. it was like 11k. also do the quests for each tier in the leveling process chances are you would complete them anyway why get not the money for the reward too.

when dealing with lots of corpses you do "/hidecorpse looted" and things you loot will vanish. i only loot the gems and leave other trash. to turn it off just do a "/hidecorpse none"

LOL!  One more thing to add to the Wiki/Faq, Reed.  All the quests would be good for a beginner to know where to go, and what they get, etc.

Where is the fun in that? lol
Also.. "down the hole" kobold are better... there is more and easier to pull separatly.

Yeah i had to make a new character actually for the quests. Reed is to high for the quest dialog. So since i need a second cleric anyway, gonna use my cleric to go through the quests and dialog to SS and post on wiki. rewards and all.

Got Alcarmaba's quest so far, picture of whats needed and reward. couldn't do the side mission for platinum bag though. coming soon

In theory, a great idea. In practice, Velks is a No Levitation Zone. On EZ, as on Live, you lose whatever levitation as soon as you zone in. I haven't tried to cast a lev after zoning in, but I would assume you get the same spell failure message as you do on Live.

Did this get changed? I am certain I remember having some kind of lev in Velks before. I haven't really been in Velks in sometime though.

As of last week, I was using Levitate in Velks.

Was this changed? I dunno. I just know it was working for me using the Pegasus cloak.

I know way back in the day on Live, if you zoned into Velks with two forms of levitate, it would only erase one of them.   I dont know if this method still exists today.

I haven't had a chance to log in and find out so casting Lev may actually work once you're in the zone. It seems I may have made the error of assuming.  :P

I remember no levitate on live.
Not sure on EZ, never tried... I always go to the basement kobold anyways lol

I stand corrected.

I bought a Pegasus Cloak and went into Velks. Clicked it and it worked fine.

I was under the impression that it was just like Live as I had gone in before with a Spirit of Eagle and had had it stripped from me when I zoned in.

Another way for a newbie to make some easy plat is by looting all of the random rings and earrings that drop in mistmoore!

I never realised but each ring sells for between 200-300 plat and you can easily fill a couple of bags up in there in no time at all so it's easy to make 5k+ which is nice money for a newbie and you will get xp and armour too!

I like to camp Cracken.  He's usually got decent plat on him.   ;D

That was because certain songs like SoE were outdoor only if i remember correctly. Or they were at one point. I think they removed it after to many people cried.

Live servers had the same limitation on Velks as the Hole had. No levitation spells whatsoever worked in that zone, neither did clicky items with levitation effect, and it stripped you of any buffs that had levitation component.

The only places where Levi worked in Velks/Hole, was private servers where source code was tampered with.

I remember back in my days of EQ on live, we'd be farming Master Yael by jumping into the hole and using invul songs/spells to land safely in the pond at the bottom.
There was once even a competition we organized on Torvonnilous to have people jump in the hole through the top entrance and try to survive the landing. Competitiors actually had to make an Erudite Evil char there and do it with lv1 :)

Oh and statistical data, out of 107 participants, 12 had survived the jump ;)

Not 100% sure yet on if Velks may be instanced, but you might want to look into that as well.

I haven't had to instance any of my farming locations yet 'cause I'm a pally and 7-8 mobs is all I really feel motivated to pull at a time anyways. If you can get your own instance, it may be worth the cash just to find out if you have the zone to yourself.

As summarized quotes have explained in other posts/threads, if nobody can see you training more than 10 mobs, nobody will really care, and you can run wild through the castle. Out of sight, out of mind type of thing. However, it is always a good idea to check /who to see is in the zone before you assume you've  got the place to yourself. Check it regularly. Don't want to be surprised when you're in the middle of beating down 30 mobs and someone walks up to you and starts just staring at you. They might as well have a little red light blinking above their heads indicating their fraps is running.

On a side note, I've run into multiple people training well over 10 mobs in Velks, and I've passed on by and grabbed what left I could find. I'm usually approached while I'm killing my 4-5 mobs by said individuals, usually freaking out because they saw me run by and they want to be extremely nice to me in fear of getting banned =P

I gained a couple FG pieces that way LOL

Where does everyone farm plat these days?

For someone who has access up to T1/T2 and soon starting T3, what would the best way be for me currently, to make plat?

I made mine by selling Greater and Superior light stones.... then by selling Fighter and Caster guild sets.  Easy to farm, but monotonous.

SLS/CG and FG kits are nice, but I farm Velks. You make quite a bit of cash per hour. Just go into the castle and pull all the mobs in it and around it.

Any RoA zone (CoM is the classic) that drops loot is a fun place.  As noted above, be sure to ask if anyone minds you looting.  Invariably the ones who care are looting as they kill, everyone else will say yes:  High levels want new low levels coming in and growing up to become later armor customers!  ;D

For cash Velks castle area is probably the fastest / easiest plat:  Starting from the gargoyle tunnel behind upper kobolds and clearing all the mobs from the yard, castle, tower and basement should yield about 12K plat and should be respawning shortly after you've finished looting the pile.  I invariably instance this place if I am farming plat here.  One clear covers the cost and I don't get any slowdowns or interruptions.  If the instance lasts overnight that is marvelous, but at 10k+ per clear it really doesn't matter.

Cobalt Scars and Sirens Grotto also come to mind.  As these are not custom zones the train rule is "don't kill anyone" so an instance is not required unless there re enough others around to slow down your looting.  There are a number of other places that are suitable for farming plat, think about the places you chased money on live and go check them here.  ;)
