Title: READ PLEASE. Crashing Issue
Post by: FridayFriday on April 24, 2011, 02:48:21 am
Okay, I run 4 characters.... pally,cleric,warrior,mage

I have an HP laptop.....

nvidia 9600M GT vid card
4 gigs of ram
2.5ghz processor
250g hdd

i crash, almost every single time i zone.
i cant kill mobs with 4 chars because either one EQ window will close to desktop, or everyone will stop attacking and the whole screen freezes. char can move around but nothing happens.

tried setting processor affinities but its a pain in the ass to do that every time i play, especially if i ctrl alt delete while playing because it freezes all EQ screens when the other window comes up. this doesnt seem to help anyway.

i tried running as admin and as regular, neither make any difference.

what do i do. please help me, this is SO frustrating.

Are you playing in full screen mode or windowed mode? Are you playing with spell effects on at all? Are your visual setting set real high? Is your processor amd or intel?

other questions
which client?
which OS?
backround programs, processes, and services?

try to watch performance in task manager as you boot up each toon.

When i ran xp 32bit with 4 gb ram, wineq would give me the low ram warning when i loaded in the third toon.

With Win 7 64bit it didnt show up till the fourth.

edit: also look at the virtual memory. recomended size for page file is 1.5x RAM

possibly fixed...

went to download wineq and required directx update (which i thought i had)...

anywho, running very smoothly since i started using it. about an hour or so now.

but just in case, more info... i'm not too too computer savvy but i know a little bit.

client - titanium
os - vista 64bit
no background programs. closed all processes.
playing in window mode (obviously with 4 characters)
spell effects off on all accounts
visual settings to lowest
and no idea about my processor.

Ok, I may be able to help.

i crash, almost every single time i zone.

That is most of us atm. Some unknown item is causing issues while zoning.

i cant kill mobs with 4 chars because either one EQ window will close to desktop, or everyone will stop attacking and the whole screen freezes.

Right click the icon for EQ and select Properties. Select the Compatibility tab.
Then select "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
Next pick Disable Visual Themes.
Lastly, 'Run this program as an administrator'.

char can move around but nothing happens.

This may be your client(s) going out of the sync with the server. In EQ, go to Options and then Filters. Turn off a good portion of them (unless, of course, you specifically need them.

I have the following on Show: Bad Word, Guild Chat, Group Chat, Shouts, Auctions, Out of Character, Spell Criticals, Heal Over Time, and Stun Messages.

All the rest are set to Hide.

Very last thing, if running MQ2, do /unload mq2fps and then close client. Go to the right corner of your Taskbar (Start Menu), find the MQ2 icon, and right click. Select INI File. A text file will appear (in notepad most likely). Find the line under [Plugins] that says 'mq2fps=mq2fps' (or something very close). Delete that line, save the file, and close Notepad. Now go to the bottom, right click and pick EXIT on MQ2. Start MQ2 back up and get into game. That should remove the lagbomb addon.

the zoning thing sucks  >:( I zone 12 guys, maybe 2-4 load fast, 2-3 crash and the rest take a year to zone. If I do it one by one and wait for them to load some still crash  :'(

If you do the stuff Hate suggested that should help a lot.
