Title: Crash - After Creating New Character Post by: Bozu on June 10, 2011, 11:39:34 am I’ve been playing on this server for a few weeks now (love the server) and there have been no issues until today.
Today I created my 5th character on my account (A bard) and right after I selected Enter World I crashed with the following error: The exception Illegal Instruction An attempt was made to execute an illegal instruction. (0xc000001d) occurred in the application at location 0x07aeb978. Now I cannot log into my account. It will crash 100% of the time once I select EZ Server on the server list. I even tried to log in on two different machines (which I never logged in before using this this account) and it crashes there as well. I can log into any other server without crashing. I am using the Underfoot client. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a way I can have the bard deleted from the server side just in case that is the cause of the problem? Thank you. Title: Re: Crash - After Creating New Character Post by: zeebos on June 10, 2011, 01:58:10 pm First, I would not recommend crating multiple characters on one account. Second, if it is happening on multiple machines I do not see how it could be the video card. Third, create another account/character and try to log into the server. If for some reason your other account is messed up and locked out, I assure you I could probably get your main character to where you left off very quickly on your new account if you have only been on the server a couple weeks. Look for Gweedo in game.
Title: Re: Crash - After Creating New Character Post by: Fugitive on June 10, 2011, 02:44:31 pm I am using the Underfoot client. shrug maybe also delete your Chars INI files and let them be remade just might do it.. Title: Re: Crash - After Creating New Character Post by: Bozu on June 10, 2011, 08:24:27 pm Thanks for the help folks. I’ve done all I can on my end. I installed a fresh version of the game and I get the same crash at character loading screen. This account works fine on other servers so it leads me to believe this is a server side problem.
I sent a mail to Hunter asking for help. In the meantime I will start a new account and catch back up to my wife. I won’t be creating more than one toon per account moving forward just in case that was indeed the issue. Are you starting the game fullscreen or windowed mode? Title: Re: Crash - After Creating New Character Post by: Fugitive on June 10, 2011, 09:30:45 pm I highly doubt it is a server side issue for you all alone your account...
check this out too http://www.wiki-errors.com/wiki-errors.php?wiki=0xc000001d. Title: Re: Crash - After Creating New Character Post by: lerxst2112 on June 10, 2011, 09:56:09 pm You might also try using the character mover just in case your toon is stuck somewhere that is causing the crash. Title: Re: Crash - After Creating New Character Post by: Bozu on June 10, 2011, 10:17:03 pm I appreciate the help. I did character moves for my toons and it still hits the errors when loading into character select.
Some details: 1. I have 3 machines all different configurations and have fresh installs on two of them from today 2. I tried logging into my other EQ account on EZ Server and it worked just fine on all three machines 3. I tried with my main account and it crashes at character load 100% of the time on each machine 4. With that same (main) account I can log into any other server on the EQEmu list with no issues 5. This all started when I created a new character and hit “Enter World” 6. The crash happens at the loading screen when the message says “Loading Character Equipment Files…” One bit of info I didn’t mention is that the error changes between a few different types when I try and log in. So the original error I posted isn’t the only info in that regard. Error message reads: The instruction at 0x07d8dba0 referenced memory at 0xb8130ee9. The memory could not be read. This is acting like a corrupted file on the server side for my account profile. Crashing the client when loading that data on any machine. Title: Re: Crash - After Creating New Character Post by: walk2k on June 11, 2011, 11:26:32 am delete the character files, the (character name)EZ.ini in the EQ folder, you have a corrupt file, happened to me once too
Title: Re: Crash - After Creating New Character Post by: Xiggie | Stone on June 11, 2011, 12:47:27 pm Also have you changed anything in your default ui file?
Title: Re: Crash - After Creating New Character Post by: Bozu on June 11, 2011, 03:53:15 pm Deleting files or changing UI configs does nothing. I have already blown away the game and done a fresh install on multiple machines which means the configuration is default when I start up the game and there are no character .ini files created yet.
I started a new account and have been playing the game just fine. This only happens when I log into that one specific account no matter what machine, config situation I have. I checked the dbg.txt log after the crash and I see this: [Sat Jun 11 13:47:00 2011]00160:Initializing engine internals. [Sat Jun 11 13:47:00 2011]00161:CRender::InitDevice completed successfully. The one thing I notice fishy here is an error: [Sat Jun 11 13:47:02 2011]00079:Failed to open C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\everquest\GlobalDRK_chr.s3d. I checked and none of my installs have GlobalDRK_chr.s3d – can anyone else confirm if they have this file? Remember I can log any other account just fine and this same account on other servers without any issues. Title: Solved - Crash - After Creating New Character - Underfoot Client Post by: Bozu on June 11, 2011, 04:38:10 pm So after discovering that the client was attempting to load files I didn't have on the UF install I installed the old Titanium client.
With a vanilla install of Titanium + EQEmu requirements I was able to log into my character list on EZ Server. Then delete the new bard character I created (which is when all this mess started) and then logged in with my other machine using the UF client. Logged in just fine. It appears that there are some unknown compatibility bugs with EQEmu and UF. Beyond the fact that I created a new character I have little information on how to reproduce this bug. The character I made was a Vah Shir Bard (4th character on that account). The moment I clicked Enter World the game crashed and I had to deal with this whole mess. Deleting the character fixed the issue. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I saved my main toon, Barfights! Title: Re: Crash - After Creating New Character Post by: lerxst2112 on June 11, 2011, 05:00:43 pm All of my Underfoot logs have the same line about not loading that file, and even a current live install doesn't have it either. I have had absolutely no problems using Underfoot on every server I play on with dozens of different characters. You should go through this list and make sure you're not missing something. http://www.eqemulator.net/wiki/wikka.php?wakka=UFMissingFilesList The easiest way to make sure you have everything is to patch a client to live and use those files to make your Underfoot installation complete. If you had a live account at any time you should have free time on it due to the downtime Sony had after they were hacked. Title: Re: Crash - After Creating New Character Post by: Bozu on June 11, 2011, 08:23:06 pm My UF install contains everything in that list. I did this two weeks ago when I first installed the UF client to play EQEmu servers. I've never had any issues as well playing on a few different accounts making several characters. This problem occurred just recently and I did nothing special besides create a new character when this issue hit.
This is how software bugs happen. They can be a rare occurrence and are difficult to reproduce. I hope if and when folks run into a similar issue they can find this post to help resolve the problem. |
