I always thought you were a webdesigner or other hi-tech worker since you run a gaming server.. Had no idea you drove a truck...

Holy shit man, glad you are OK.  I got ran off the interstate when I was drivin delivery, can't pass the physical anymore so got my CDL taken away.  I am very happy to see that you ( and the people in the car ) did not get hurt.  Some people just dont realize how stupid they are.  Many lived could have been messed up today.

Dang!  I saw a video of you sliding down an off ramp and passing a truck that went off the side.  That's dangerous work.

Holy crap! Unbelievable some people can be that clueless. Its gotta be tough doing your job around this time of year. Its not like you can afford to slow down much due to business requiring you to get the goods to them in a time frame. I think the dash cam is a great idea, you could start a video blog of all the morons you encounter regularly.

Had to watch it twice to understand.
Glad you didnt smash the idiot.
+100 for running a dash cam.

Lol right, when I first started and saw that he mentioned working 70-80 hour weeks I thought he was a programmer that did this on the side.  Nothing wrong with driving a truck, though!

Never said there is something wrong... just an assumption I've made.

Hunter runs Fraps in his truck.  That looks like a bannable offense if I have ever seen one.

LOL bannable offense. Yeah they should have their license banned/revoked.

I'll probably start uploading more videos to that website as the winter goes on. I've been running dash cam for less than a year so far, so I don't have to many winter accident videos yet.

I originally went to college (www.digipen.edu (http://www.digipen.edu)) to be a game programmer but then decided I had way more fun on the highway. It upset my family originally that I wasted college, but they accept it now seeing I'm doing ok.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll keep everyone updated as new stuff happens.

Hi Hunter,

Glad that you're OK !!!
By the way, it's always nice to hear how people makes a living, their background etc...  game-creator and truckdriver at the same time !  Surprising and exiting combination.  I'm also working in the logistics as an transport-mananger, but Its rather rare that we have to drive here in Belgium in such several weather conditions.  Alsways surprising how things rolls on the other side of the planet when mother nature is trying to mess up daily life.  But at the end of the day, there is still EZ-server !!! Yeah  ;D

Kind regards,
ALRAZOR

Which is why you should lower aug prices, so I can enjoy my job again!!!!!

Skeezy Ratty Troll

/em grins and giggles and ducks and hides behind the Buff Bot.

On the serious side, very glad both you and that retread are both safe.  Like others I had to look a second time to see what really happened.  It always amazes me how some rocket scientist of a driver thinks that somehow that tractor trailer barreling down the road at speed is not subject to the laws of inertia and momentum.

One of the reasons no one will die and appoint me God is I would fix that behavior.  Anyone being that stupid with a vehicle would find themselves miraculously transported to their driveway with the car parked.  They would also discover a newly grown abject terror of ever operating a vehicle unless another human being's life depended on it.  :o

Harketh ye, bretheren of the server EZ. From on high, yea, upon his great 18- wheel chariot spoketh he, the god of EZ.  And with great wisdom...  he called out in expletives.... and it was good!

Heh, interesting to get a small peak into the life of the bringer of many hours of distraction for all of us. I watched all the videos, took me back to when I used to travel often when i was younger.

That jack-knife was crazy, you'd think they'd throw some damn sand & salt on that off ramp for Chrissake. Poor fedex guy.
This especially hit home because just the other day i started rotating on black ice on a narrow road into oncomming traffic. I was in my truck with good tires. There was a deep ditch on each side... I just let go of the gas and hoped to god it would straighten out and it did just in time, I wasn't going fast at all and there was no warning, no ice before that stretch of road. Bought sand bags for the back that day.

You did the right thing. Get off the gas, and don't touch the breaks. The wheels need to be rolling to straiten out. This is what I did in the near miss with that car when I had to drive onto snow covered left lane. I just let it coast without touching break or accelerator, and hoped it would continue to drive strait.

As for the jack knife video, I had to use breaks up to a certain point to get my speed down, even though it was jack knife position, but when you saw the truck pull to the right and regain control is because I got off the breaks and the wheels started moving again. Of course being on a down hill, my speed picked up, which would have been very bad considering the exit was in a U-Shape. So even though I knew it was going to pick up speed at the end, I steered it away gradually and hoped for the best.

I've probably been in about 6+ jack knifes now in my 10 years driving big trucks, luckily though none of them resulted in anything serious or any damage.

I prefer to stay off the roads... which is why I like my job working from home :)

Watching your videos remind me of some scary commutes to and from work I have had in the past (in the Twin Cities - MN).  You have to drive defensively cause you never know when someone will do something stupid.

Glad you made it past the car without hitting it.  We haven't had that much snow to mess up the roads here this winter so far.  Mildest winter I have ever seen.

Coldwater, mi that's a hour and a half from my house LOL. Glad your alright hunter these fucks in michigan drive like shit i know this for sure. It's why i think michigan should do what kentucky and most southern states do and only be able to pass on the left lanes. Just FYI you can tell a michigander by the fact they pass on the right side of the road instead of the left like they should.

In spirit of recent weather, bumping this topic of near miss on snowy roads.

If you watch closely, the car was driving in reverse on the highway! My truck going full speed has no chance to stop, only go around, and hope to not roll over in the medium.

Can see from the date time stamp that was about 2 years ago.

I don't remember the brand names. I can search Google and find them and link them if you want.

Those videos were 2 years old, and the dash cams are probably 3 years old now. There is much better stuff out by now.

I've tried several dash cames from $75 - $350 range and yes most of them are disappointing.

After having a few, certain things to look for when making a choice.

1) Get 1080P HD so you can read license plates.
2) Get easy to mount with suction cup, not permanent sticky pad, so you can change trucks easier
3) 2" display helps, such as the direction its focused on (My 1st one was 1080P but no display screen)
4) Night Time - The night vision IR stuff is bs, makes glare on the windshield, so find whatever quality you can with or without IR that is decent at night
5) Max GB SD or MicroSD card allowed, most seem to be 32GB but newer ones allow up to 64 - 128 GB
6) length per clip durations (1 min, 5 min, 10 min, etc) most seem to have a brief 1 second pause between recorded clips.
7) Does have audio, and if so ability to mute? Sometimes I'd rather not record my phone conversations onto the video
8 ) Extreme Temps - I had one lock up when in the sunlight, got too hot.

One Dash Cam advertising has SONY Exmor CMOS Sensor for better quality.
