Title: Monk Disciplines
Post by: robpickles on May 03, 2010, 11:42:48 am
I am just getting to learn about these...

I see they work on timers.  Also what is the 'cost' for?

All the monks out there, which are the best ones you like to use?

Do you make combos with them?

Cost is endurance don't really need to worry about you shouldn't run out.

I use phantom cry when pulling to lull mobs, Dragon fang whenever its up and I'm engaged for extra dps they are on same timer but something like 30 sec refesh. Use innerflame when fighting something tough and want the extra dps. Use earthwalk when tanking a named or just need to take less damage.

Also use aura of speed and fists of wu constantly to boost groups dps, but last time i played they weren't stacking anymore not sure if that was changed haven't played in a week.

I'm probably forgetting one or two but those are ones I use the most.

What about Ashenhand or any of the individual attack disc for your special attacks?  Are they on different timers and can you chain them so you can get maybe a line of attacks going?

I played a monk on live for several years. First thing I do when I check out a server on emu is make a monk. I like playing monk, and I like monking. Most of your disc's are eye candy. Thunderous kick, ashenhand, etc. they are all eye candy. I have ancient phantom, earth walk or stone stance, innerflame, tranquil force, and the aa ability destructive force. Phantom is a unresistable, never fail lull. I believe it last 10 seconds and has a 15 second recast. Dragon Fang is on the same timer as the phantom line so I don't even fool with it. Destructive force lets you hit every mob around you, (even behind you) for a short duration, (5 seconds I think). It has a 1 hour reuse timer and works best when used in conjunction with innerflame. Innerflame is on a 22 minute reuse timer. It doubles your hits value. I think it last 15 seconds or so. That might not sound like much, but believe me, when your double, triple and quading for 4k per hit for 15 or so seconds, (can't remember exactly how long) it really adds up. Especially when used with destructive force.  Tranquil force gets rid of roots and some dots and is insta reuse. It is especially helpful when fighting a boss in PoD that roots. While everyone else is rooted you can maneuver to get on adds as they pop and what not.

Thanks for the info

What about AAs Xig?

What should you go for first?  Most useful?

Q: What AAs?  Answer: Anything that resembles Defensive, or reflex.  Then do attack afterwards.

That is what I recommend to everyone.  What good is awesome attack if you cannot survive a hit?

This is good recommendations and should be followed. Don't forget though the value of stats in defense. Chaotic potential or anything else that raises your stats is very good. The more hp the longer you live.

Just noticed...

Ancient Phantom is lower level than Phantom Cry, no? Any reason that over the higher level one?  Or was this in error?  ;)

And what about Rapid kick disc?  Is this another eye candy disc?

Rapid kick is another eye candy. The added dps is minimal that I have seen. And what I mean by minimal is like half a percent of over all damage. The reason why I go with ancient phantom is it used to be the only one that worked. I just have not bothered changing out to the other one but any of them will do. I do not believe there is a level cap on any of them. It is not something that is used a hell of a lot, but when it is used very very appreciated and handy.

Something worth mentioning, in my experience, is Whirlwind Kick, while it does minimal damage, it has helped me worlds in getting *SOME* AoE aggro in situations where I am 2-4 boxing. Just spam it.

Sounds like great advice.
Are these disciplines all AA's?

Disciplines are disciplines and aa's are aa's. They are not one in the same.
