Title: Display Driver has stopped responding??
Post by: Seyton on May 25, 2010, 09:27:22 am
Hey guys,

For the past few days now my screen will randomly go black while playing EQ causing me to have to restart the game. It says that the Display Driver has stopped responding and has recovered, then shows that it was the nvlddmkm.sys driver that screwed up.
I have seriously tried EVERYTHING on the internet to get this darn thing fixed, and I've just realized it ONLY happens while playing EQ (Crysis and WoW work fine).

Has anyone else encountered this problem and possibly knows something I don't??? I'm so sick of being in the middle of a fight and having the screen go black....

You try a reinstall? Turning down settings? What kind of video card do you have?

Yes I've tried everything besides formatting the hardrive and starting from scratch. I'm running an NVidia Gefore 8800 GTX and have seriously never had this problem before. EQ just does not like me!

Operating System? Are you running EQ as is or are you specifying the program to run in a compatibility mode like an older OS?

I would make sure you are up to date with all your Driver and OS upates.

I saw some possible solutions in here:

but alot of them don't look sec

Ok a few ideas.

1)Download latest driver (sure you have done this)

2) Download latest Directx redlist (Probably also done)

3) Download wineq2 and run (had this problem switching and tabbing this fixed it)

4)download latest Microsoft .NET from Microsoft site (also fixed a similar screen prob with ATI and nvidea cards)

Hope these help.

Just remembered another one similar on a Nvidea card. Dont run EQ in full screen, run in Windowed mode at max rez for card/monitor (still runs full screen and stops client crashes due to graphics switching)

I think this is good advice, especially if you are boxing.
