Title: EZ Website Updated
Post by: Hunter on July 06, 2010, 04:01:58 am
Refresh your browser from our websites main page:

http://www.ezserver.online/

Yellowbird has helped to make the front end of our website a lot better! Some stuff still has "Coming soon" but the layout is finally in the direction we want to go with our style.

Enjoy!

The style / looks are much better! Especially the menu. Now we just need to interface it with the database so people can do item searches, see players online, updated magelo, etc.

There are a lot of things in the works for the new website.  I will take the time to list them.

Allaclone - Features like Allakhazam, but the information is specific to EZ Server.
Wiki - Most, if not all (?), of the content for the wiki has been done by Reed.  It's just a matter of installing MediaWiki and converting the templates from Wikispaces proprietary format.
Pictures/Videos - Way back in the day Hazard won a contest to produce informative videos for the EZ Server.  The plan is to have a section for user created EZ themed content.
Magelo - Will update the DB every 24 hours.  No more 3 month old Magelo.

Part of the reason for this post is to get people excited for the upcoming changes.  We'd also like to get some feedback from players.  You know what is planned; is there anything that you can think of that we have missed?  Post your thoughts in this thread.

I have a few dedicated hosts, i can host the wiki if needed, i can set it up subdomain on one of my boxes full wiki etc with reed and you guys just link to it.

One of the benefits of my box is its one less thing you and hunter would have to worry about, im sure Reed and myself can manage that with no issues.

http://wiki.df.dreamhosters.com/wiki/Wikispaces_to_Mediawiki_Converter
http://www.ellesime.net/~sheepy/tools/wikiconvert.html

I think that the devs here prefer that the wiki be hosted on ezserver.online.  That way if you move on from EZ Server the information/edits made to the wiki are retained.

understandable. The offer is there none the less.
Like i said, it would at least take the implementation end away from those currently investing time.

Actually, I can do the port currently to wiki standard on my own servers ahead of time and that way all the devs have to do is dump the sql when its ready to move!

tbh i dont really care where the wiki goes. would make most sense on the ezserver website, my only concern is whoever has access to it (especially opening it to everyone) could delete shit they think people shouldn't know about, rage deleting things because they're mad, etc..
I started it with the intention of giving Hunter a 100% completed product (for the time) and letting him do what he wanted with it. Would have been my big contribution to the server i've enjoyed playing on for the most part. However work and other RL got in the way of me fully finishing it.

I still want to keep working, but when I get home its already 6pm and having to get up at 5am for PT (physical training for anyone not exposed to military acronyms). So all i want to do at that point is relax and play the game. So yeah if we can find a way to just open it up to everyone on EZ server and host it on this website, great. At least i can present a good start on it. May not turn out the way I envisioned but at least it will be up and have information for new folks.

Wont have people always swamping key people in the community with tells for info *cough cough* Dany *cough cough*

We can tie SMF login credentials to MediaWiki credentials.  That way if someone is mucking around with the wiki it's easy enough to remove their access.  The other nice thing about wikis is that they have pretty strong built in version control, so reverting back to a prior revision is a mouse click or two away.

very nice, i like that kind of security.

Who all will have actual admin access to it? same people who have admin access to EZ website?
And when i say admin access, i dont mean just changing info, deleting, adding, etc... I mean the everything of the website/ wiki. The ability to revert, view logs, etc.

That decision is Hunter's, but I assume it would be limited to those people with Admin on the forums.

One small feedback I have on the new page, is that you need more information for potential new players.

Under Gameplay, put a new sub-link for Server Info (or Details or such.)

EZ Server utilizes a series of "custom" zones, a large experience gain increase and custom items to enable a new player to feel powerful in hours instead of months.

From the starter zones that drop amazing stat gear to the raid zones with custom armour with amazing stats, there is something for everyone.

Main Features:
- Custom loot tables in 13 (or however many, I forget) zones.
- Custom epic quests with epic pieces always dropping from the required mobs. 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 and 4.0 epics are available.
- Upgradeable charm with big HP/Mana/End regen.
- Custom raid zones to conquer for incredible custom-designed armour.
- Custom "Fighter Guild" and "Caster Guild" entry with quest completion. The guilds contain a variety of conveniences and items for free.
- Teleporter NPCs to any zone, Buff Bots, Free Epic 1.0 vendors, spell-trainers, practice dummies and more available in Surefall Glade, the starting city for all characters.

I'm sure it could be worded differently, that's just what I came up with :P
