Title: PC recommendations ... .. .. Coming back from an extended vacation. Post by: simjosh on January 29, 2020, 11:56:36 am So. Im about to build another desktop to get back into some EQ fun. Been a couple years and I'll need to start over with a new desktop.
For you all out there boxing.. 10+ toons What would you recommend - Best intel / amd generation without that 2k price tag.. Was looking at I7-9700k and Ryzen 7 3800x with around 32gb ram - no video card (I think I remembered CPU / RAM was more important to EQ than the graphic's card ever was.. - Samsung 970 pro m.2 for a harddrive Figured those basicis would build me a great rig... If it's over kill ... What would ya'll suggest i5-6core (to save a bit of money without loss of performance) ? Any suggestions would be greatly apprecaited.. Sorry if I've got this in the wrong forum or missed an older build list from recent days... Thanks! Josh Title: Re: PC recommendations ... .. .. Coming back from an extended vacation. Post by: Cayden7553 on January 29, 2020, 02:07:15 pm I would definitely avoid the Ryzen 3000X line. I built a new PC last weekend with a Ryzen 9 3900X, and it runs really hot. 40 - 50C idle, and 80 when stressed using an H100i water cooler. It's not a problem with the cooling as I tried another water-based and air-based solution with similar results.
Researching after the fact (doh!) this seems to be a common issue with Ryzen 3000X series CPUs, which AMD claims is a non-issue. I've never had CPU run that hot in my builds before though, especially idle. Title: Re: PC recommendations ... .. .. Coming back from an extended vacation. Post by: simjosh on January 29, 2020, 02:10:56 pm thanks for the reply bud... I did notice most of the Ryzen chips ran hotter at idle but appeared to run slightly cooler when running hard... I'll probably just keep looking at the i7-9700s and maybe i5 6cores
Appreciate the insight! Title: Re: PC recommendations ... .. .. Coming back from an extended vacation. Post by: Ekiir on January 29, 2020, 03:08:53 pm I would definitely avoid the Ryzen 3000X line. Title: Re: PC recommendations ... .. .. Coming back from an extended vacation. Post by: Brannyn on January 30, 2020, 12:14:35 pm I'm sure my pc would run 20 toons without much issue but I wouldn't exactly say it's badass and was $1500 total. Took a classmates suggestion on the video card to use a GTX 1660 TI and it runs pretty well but around $600-700 of the cost was spent on a processor.

Do you know if the video card did help with multiple toon running? I was under the impression vid'cards didn't help nearly as much, but if that's wrong I gotta re-think what I'm buying regardless. - Probably been 3 years since I been on. Hopefully toons are all still there but.. I had an old i7-4790 and it ran up to 10 without anything but on board video - after 10 started to lag some - - So I wonder if an actual video card would of helped any.. Thanks for response (which processor did you go with i9-9900k or an AMD?) Title: Re: PC recommendations ... .. .. Coming back from an extended vacation. 12 max with very reduced setting on a 6 gen i5 with on board graffix. not much of a comparison but added a 1050 gtx and everything on max no stickfigues or anything no messing. Ram lots 16gb min for multiboxing allow 1/2 gb per account Cores more the better most are quad or six core or even eight so no need for an old xeon SSD a sensible card. Or better dust of the 4th gen add a 1650 |
