1  General Category / Updates / Re: Guild Quest Camps on: September 21, 2010, 01:52:10 pm
I think, as an alternative, there should be a fairly involved, long quest line to get you flagged for the fighters/Casters guild. Basically, using no drop, lore, common items (or if possible, items that only drop if your on the quest. Does the emu scripting allow this?).

Anyways, using those two types of items (as well as "Kill X/X enemies") would make camping these items pretty much null. Instead of using rare/named spawns that can be camped, use regular world enemies, with chances to drop said item.

While I have a few quests lined up for hunter to review, I haven't been able to get my own EQEmu server running yet to throw up custom scripts for said quests, so it's made the process slow. I'll remedy this situation this weekend however.

I think we have an opportunity here to make use of multiple zones that are completely unused atm. Using zones like Kael, Wakening Lands, Burning Woods, Chardok, Beholder, etc etc.

My goal with the design would be: For a single person/new player trying to get Fighters/Casters guild flagged, they would run through the long quest farming mobs all over the world with very little chance of things being camped (multiple people could be killing the same type of mobs, everyone has a chance still). Players looking to quickly finish the quest via purchasing items can use the old way.

Making sure the quest is long enough that it takes effort (but your always able to work towards completing the objective/doing something) will be the hard part.

When you get the PC, check out the nvidia control panel and the profiles. There will be a ton of games listed, each profile is basically set to use SLI to the full advantage. So if the game is on the list, it uses SLI right out of the box.

:X

For firefox: Noscript is the BEST thing you will ever get on your browser. ever.

It will not allow any scripts to run on a webpage. You can choose to allow a specific website if you feel comfortable with it, or something requires that javascript be used (this is getting more and more rare though).

Hands down though, get NoScript addon for Firefox. I rarely get popups anymore with just that, since most are triggered by java script anyways.

For antivirus, ive actually had very good luck with microsofts Security Essentials. Its completely free if your running windows, and its worked extremely well for me. It doesnt use much system resources, so I rarely even notice it running.

If your getting a Dual SLI computer, you need to purchase some games that take advantage of it! Tongue
5  General Category / Quest and Guides / Re: SSD vs HDD - What is the optimal drive setup for boxing? on: September 01, 2010, 04:23:35 pm
Maybe I'm wrong, or just out of date with SSD's, but they still have limited writes before they begin to fail correct?

With that in mind, the idea of a pagefile of about 10gb on an SSD thats 64gb kinda scares me. What I remember reading a few months ago was that most SSD's were sitting around 50,000-100,000 writes before they started to fail (and I understand its each block of data, and that the entire SSD will not fail at once, but slowly blocks become unusable).

I dunno, just seems like your eating up your small 160$ SSD quickly.
6  General Category / Updates / Re: PC DIED on: September 01, 2010, 04:13:09 pm
SSD is TOTALLY worth it. Get one for under $200 and use a secondary drive for storage.

The only ones I see under 200$ are around 60GB. Hell, EQ alone is around 4GB (thats the titanium). If you box on this server, you probably have multiple installs. You prolly do more gaming than just EQ (most games I play now are around the 8-15gb range, or more).

So, with a sub 200$ SSD, your gonna get 3-4 games installed (you want your OS on the SSD, and the games on the SSD to see the performance). Just not worth it when you can grab a nice 7200rpm Hard Drive for way less, with way more space.

Let's not even get into the limited amount of times data can be written to the SSD as well... :X

SSD isnt worth it for the price IMO.

Sure, it will be awesome when you can get a high quality one with enough space to actually game for under 300$. But yea, right now they are so expensive.

Can get a damn nice gaming PC on Newegg (custom built) for under 1k$. Hell, I built one almost 2 years ago for around 850$ with a 24 inch Wide Screen monitor, and it still hasnt had trouble with any games yet (Crysis highest settings.. 60fps, so awesome)

But yea, screw SSD for now, give it another couple years, unless you wanna put EZServer on some SSD drives. Then I'm all for it :O

"Shutup and Shoot" imo

I'm fairly certain, since its a dial up, you just ban the ENTIRE subnet, (prolly just the C? class) i think.

Anyways, that would ONLY get that specific ISP (since they are given that C class to use, or is it B? i cant remember, Crab would know I bet).

Anyways, yea, just ban the entire X.X.*.* and you prolly wont have any problems, and the only people asking for a lift on the ban would be people also using the same dialup ISP Tongue
10  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Charm! on: April 15, 2010, 10:36:45 pm
Yea, Flowkeepers in level 3. I got charmed on my warrior and absolutely destroyed my alts in about 3 seconds. Oops. And then I ended up walking through the wall to follow it back to spawn, obviously getting stuck int he process.

Meh Tongue
11  General Category / Suggestions / Re: Excellent platinum sink idea on: April 13, 2010, 05:02:09 pm
There is a few other things that could be used as a plat sink, which I agree should be discussed (especially if we want to keep the Casters Guild and Fighters guild quests the way they are).

Maybe a vendor selling CoTH stones with charges would be a good path. Maybe a single charge stone for 10k, and up to a 5 charge stone for 50k (or more, I myself am usually broke, but honestly I never find anything I want to buy anyways anymore. I would, however, buy CoTH stones like crazy!).

Maybe we can figure out a method of using PoEarthA as an extension to PoFire as a zone to EXP in. However, if it could be instanced, maybe you pay 5k per person to zone into your own PoEarth instance, and get to EXP in there for a limited time? Having an entire zone for yourself would be awesome for a little fee!

What about the alternate advancement AA that gave you bonus exp. I know hunter removed it because it was exploitable with RoA, but if instead we set up an NPC that would give you the buff for a price (10, 20, 30k? plat, useable once every 3 days?)

I could probably keep going for a while Tongue

I personally though stat buff food, augments, even Charm Upgrades.

However, to limit people going crazy, limit the purchases that can be done within a time frame.

stat buff food could be worth 10aa maybe, and be purchased unlimited times through the day.

augments could anywhere from 100-500aa, depending on the augment. Limit those to maybe 1 purchase every day, or every other day.

Charm upgrades could be 1000-1500aa (maybe increasing the amount for the level of the charm, ie: buy your begining charm with 100aa, upgrade to level 2 is 200aa, 300aa for level 3, etc etc) but only allow for 1 purchase a day at levels 1 through 10, one purchase every 3 days at 10-20, and one purchase every week for everything after that.

That way people will get their first 1k or so AA, and just purchase their three day item, and wont feel pressed to train massive amounts to do it quicker, as there's an artificial block. It also makes getting charms after 20 relatively slow, and makes the current system slightly better for that if you want to power it up (however, you still would get the bonus of 1 upgrade every week for all that extra AA you get while farming LDoN points :X)

You should be able to use a global to let the server know when a client can purchase another of that specific upgrade/item.

Note: All these values/timers are just randomly pulled from my ass. They may/may not reflect fair values, or good time limits, however I am just trying to get the idea across! Tongue

Theres a lot of stuff you could do with extra AA points. Trade for instant levels for a FIRST TIME 70 (ie, doesnt work for anyone doing RoA)? Buy FG/CG items? (This helps with people farming the crap out of the lowbie zones too!) Extremely annoying items? (Ranger arrow from Tacvi.. i hate it Sad )

So on and so forth.

Edit: Limited Charges Call of the Hero Stone. DO IT! OH GOD PLEASE DO IT! Tongue
