I think almost anyone that played a Monk on EQLive will agree that the glowy fist weapons are generally considered "noob" looking, which is why a lot of us have issue with the current graphics.

Slow-mo is typically due to running on a multi-core PC. Set your EQ Client to run on a single processor (EQEmu Launcher can do it for ya, I don't recall the command line parameter for it) and it should be fine.

Also, you're supposed to remove all BUT that line. There's a post near the bottom on the first page mentioning a few others to leave in to let bird baths work.

I have yet to have this happen to any of my characters. SoD client, if that matters. Mage DS works fine, Mage's pet buff bot works fine, Monk buff bot and Paladin buff bot and castable buffs.

It seems the bug is not from the caster, but the receiver.

I was in a party with some guildies last night, and my group Mage DS was wearing off our tank at odd times without being dispelled. It was very random.

Honestly, a lot of the EQLive "expectations" aren't present here. There's not a lot of pickup grouping, as most people multi-box and/or are in guild instances for things.

As has been said, find something you enjoy. As far as the "best" class, a lot of them have pros and cons.

Mage and Necro get great pets with their later epics. They do great DPS but cannot tank the high end stuff.

Warriors are great tanks (duh) and PLers, but the PLing only happens when you are rather high end and get the AE DD augs available to them.

Pallies are a good all-around helper class. Epic procs a group heal, good survivability but obviously not great DPS. A good tank class to consider in a multi-box setup, but they're not as great in the high end raid content as tanks.

I really enjoy my Monk, but their epics leave something to be desired. Great DPS, they get eaten alive by AEs and Rampage in high end, and half of their epic effects are useless. The clicky adds a rapid-firing proc, but the focus and flying kick mods don't work.

Bards are underplayed and can be very handy if you plan to join a guild fighting the higher end stuff. Just be aware charm is cut out of the game at the moment due to exploits with it.

Wizards are generally laughed at, from my understanding. They're not good to multibox, and their DPS is a joke compared to a Mage pet. I'm not sure how they stack up these days with the added spells in the higher end zones, though so I could be wrong.

Beastlords are another viable pet class, but again their pets get eaten alive by the higher end AE and Rampage.

Rangers and Rogues are great "autofire" DPS for a bot squad and/or a guild that does high end stuff.

Clerics are good as core healers, but their epics aren't as good as the Druid and Shaman. The latter two get no rez on this server, but their epic effects are solid. Druid = big HP regen, Shaman = big HP buff.

Enchanters... well... with no charm and crack buffs available at a hail, they're generally not played either.

So take those factors into account and just play what you want. Pick one class to be your main that you want to focus on, and make bots that will complement them well. Once you get your bot army geared up, it won't be hard to experiment with other classes.

Yeah, Shinai or dual REBBs or claws or something other than glowy fists would be awesome. I was a huge weapon collector on my EQLive monk, owning almost every graphic-type of weapon up to GoD, and apart from rapidly swapping glowies to look like police sirens or something, I rarely showed them off.

The ones I showed off and got the most "ooo, pretty" tells over were the Shinai.

I propose making the 1.5 a glowy, 2.0 another glowy, 2.5 a Shinai, 3.0 the Live 1.5, 3.5 Live 2.0, 4.0 REBB, or something like that.
6  General Category / Monk / Re: New Monk Graphics! on: September 29, 2010, 02:17:38 pm
Honestly, I'm rather disappointed in the new graphics.

The whole "glowy fist" weapon thing just leaves such a noob weapon taste in my mouth.

The 3.0 (green glowy) graphic is from a weapon dropped by a level 50-ish named turtle in Natimbi.

If anything, make the earlier epics glowy then make the later epics back to the 1.5/2.0 graphics, or pick something other than glowy fists.

I feel like I'm some alt monk that somebody went to the bazaar and bought the "best" weapon 10k could buy.

I'm not sure how much warning he's been given by the GM staff, but I'm a firm proponent of warning before banning. No matter how much of a douchebag the person is.

Sometimes people just figure an Emu server means nobody will enforce any rules, and a firm smack upside the head makes them wise up.

Other times it just makes them act out their douchebaggery in a more subtle manner.

A big part of the problem in finding/making groups is the lack of clerics, and low number of other healers. It seems the only people that play clerics are botting them and being antisocial, or just flying through the progression past where people needed them.

Most solo players are picking DPS classes or the "easy" classes. Which tend to not be tanks or healers.

*whispers* I think he's joking
10  General Category / Updates / Re: FG/CG Items No Drop? on: July 17, 2010, 02:08:42 pm
So instead, we end up with FG/CG becoming trivial. People will mass slaughter the zone and those nodrop lore FG/CG items they have for all their bots/alts will sit there rotting for anyone to come along and loot.

No thanks.

Make specific rare mobs in other zones (that used to be camped for items, as is the theme with these quests) drop the Guild items, or make their drop item into an optional second choice for the quest.

The system worked fine the way it was with lower population. Now that there's greater population, more camps = more campers = less lineups = less frustrations.

You will NEVER do away with people that overcamp and item. All you're doing by making something Lore and/or No Drop is ripping the economy in half and not even remotely preventing people from camping multiple drops in a row for their bots/alts. Logging in and out while holding a camp with 3 characters is oh-so difficult, after all.

Y'all need to read more than the OP and last page before posting an idea.

You give the Waypoint plat, and it stores them in a bank-like way; you can withdraw it again at any point if you wish.

You can use the deposited plat to get Buff Bot buffs, or to create a group instance of some zones.

There's apparently still some issues with Waypoint zeroing out your account balance. Though I haven't had that issue myself yet. Just don't go depositing your life's savings in there is all I'm saying.
12  General Category / Updates / Re: FG/CG Items No Drop? on: July 14, 2010, 04:23:44 pm
I would imagine that a majority of the people who have selected the "no" option are those people who like to camp and sell REQUIRED items so other people

I voted no, and have never sold or traded a single CG/FG item. In fact, I gave away a few extras I obtained during double drop days.

I voted no because I believe there are better options. That, and I am better able to farm items for my alts on my monk than I would on a caster. I can zerg down to a camp and kill the train on my monk. Casters would require a slow crawl down to camp.

Make each Guild step requirement drop from multiple zones/camps. Be it different items, or the same item added to another mob's loot table. The answer to overpopulation causing huge backlogs is not solved by the no drop flag.

It is solved by making it drop more often and/or from more camps.

Making it nodrop just solves people selling to trade, and not all of those people are as greedy as you obviously think they are.

Yeah, MoW is definitely a bottleneck right now. Luckily we have Guild instancing, but in larger guilds it can still be a bit of a wait.

Same with Terrorantula/Quillmane, though not so bad.
14  General Category / Rants and Flames / Re: Anyone else noticing. . . . on: July 12, 2010, 12:40:39 pm
I sit on the same side of the fence as with the FG/CG overcamping issue: Don't instance, spread out the camps.

A second set of public LDoN 1-6 (plenty of maps to use, assuming the database is populated) would account for the spike in population better than allowing every shmoe to have a private instance.

I haven't run through LDoN in the past week or so, but for the most part I only found the last 2 floors camped by non-page farmers.

I may've just been lucky, though.

I'd honestly like to see more people group up and tackle things together. There's a very fine line between encouraging and forcing it, though.

Sadly, until more people play clerics outside of multi-boxers that don't play with others (nothing against them, just saying) we aren't going to see much of it Sad

I'm thinking of leveling a cleric up to play with others, and I try my best to help clerics I see. But there's not many out there!
