I don't know how it works and I doubt anyone that does know is going to say on here at all. But how is it extreme? There is a bug that allows duping of items using charmed mobs, unless the bug can be fixed the logical and reasonable solution is to remove charm. Otherwise you end up with a server destroyed instead of a server with no charm.

I think it's extreme because it takes away a class defining ability, and I'd wager that others agree since barely anyone is playing a chanter on this server.

How about making select non-quest NPCs charmable instead of making all NPCs immune to charm? For example... make the giants in BOT charmable, and trash in Dulak, PoTime and Qvic, etc. Keep all else immune if it's too much work to reactivate charm server-wide and cherry pick NPCs for immunity.

I believe there is an exploit with charmed mobs that allows duping of items.

Interesting. I wonder how that worked exactly. Can anyone else shed some more light on this topic? Seems extreme to remove Charm server-wide.

After PL-ing a chanter I was told via ooc that Charm has been disabled on the server. Anyone know why it was disabled? Any chance that it will be reactivated?

I believe mobs were charming people in LDON and screwing up their play.  Making pets poof, tanks attacking their boxed alts, etc.

Here is the thread:

Can't see how this has anything to do with player characters not being able to charm NPCs.

How about an ability or purchased potion that consumes AA points for a moderate (40-60%) temporary boost in run speed. Kind of like the "Nitro" button in that old-school "Super Off-Road" arcade game. Like 1 AA for every 10 seconds of boost.

I don't think this ability would be so desirable that people would farm PoFire for extra AAs but it would be fun to use every now and then after AAs are naturally gained.

i dont know why, but i just imagined someone training a bunch of T1 mobs onto a camp with this....
use speed boost, out run mobs, run through a group, FD or die... bam group gone and place stolen.

You don't think this is possible already? People can already out-run mobs and have the means to train all day, in any zone. I don't know why there is such a huge fear of trains.. it's EQ, they happen.

I don't train for xp and I don't like trains period, but the server can now apparently handle large ones and they will, unfortunately, occur regardless of what new tools/incentives are available.

This whole "if we make X-ability/reward available then more trains will happen" argument just reminds me of, "if we make marijuana legal then we will have more heroin addicts."

The fear of trains should not be a wild-card roadblock to all new ideas imo.

I know there are ways to manually get around the bug... but what caused it and can it be fixed? Having to duck/unduck or spam melee attack 3 times in a row is just annoying.

Switching from autofire to melee used to work so smoothly. Sad

For example, I pull a mob with autofire and after it runs up to me within melee range I use my hotkey (a) to attack with melee, but my ranger just stands there and nothing happens. I have to either turn autofire off and then attack, or press my attack key 3 times, turning melee on/off/on before I start swinging.

Anyone else experiencing this annoying bug?
