How difficult is it to install one of these things and move from an existing HDD to a new SSD?  I am looking at :

BASIC steps to upgrade/swap hard drives:

1) Install SSD into 2.5" SATA hard drive enclosure.
2) Plug enclosure into USB port of laptop (USB 3.0 will be a LOT faster than USB 2.0).
3) Install hard drive cloning software onto laptop (Samsung provides the software with SSD).
4) Follow instructions to clone old hard drive from laptop onto new SSD (Samsung software makes it very easy).
5) Shut down your laptop, unplug the power, remove battery and uninstall old hard drive.
6) Remove SSD from enclosure and install into laptop.
7) Reinstall battery, plug in power and restart laptop.
Cool You're Done!

If that's all there is to it, then I guess that's a go!

Ya thats about it. I have 1 samsung SSD, Samsung software was gimpy.

Samsung software was gimpy...does that mean it was a pita to "clone" the hard drive or exactly what?  Also is the SDD drive itself good or is it lacking?

The samsung cloning software was crappy. Had some issues with it, eventually used Easeus software for the clone. Worked slick.
Drive is real good no issues.

You might want to wait a bit before buying an 840 EVO.  Right now there's an issue with the drives that makes them read very slowly for old data.  There's supposed to be a fix coming this week or so, but it'll take a month or so after that to see if the fix is really permanent or not.  The 850 EVO is also coming pretty soon so you might want to wait for that.

For SSD migrations for typical Desktop HDD to SSD I would recommend EaseUS, fairly simple to use.
