Title: Server Code Update 12-20-2014 (Rain of Fear 2 Client BETA Launched)

All, I am happy to present with you the latest server source update with a bunch of goodies.

Notable Changes:
  • Many Server Stability fixes and improvements
  • Guilds no longer spam rank on zone in
  • Expeditions disabled temporarily to observe some stability related issues as well as to address some other mechanics, shouldn't be a big deal and fixed soon

Zone Dropping Issue (Fixed):
  • Issue: Originally, people would witness when zoning clients that not all clients would make it and they would hang and/or the client would go (Not Responding) resulting in having to log those clients back in.
  • Root Cause: What is occurring here is when the zone to zone process occurs, the clients connection is passed to another process for handling. This particular process is called world, when this process gets busy, the following has been occurring. When a client zones, and world is processing the zone to zone request, the client will send what's called a OP_SessionRequest, to essentially establish its session again. What has been occurring is that the client will sometimes get impatient and send OP_SessionRequest twice, which world would drop those connections which result in either client crashes or client hangs.
  • Resolved: This issue has been resolved by our coders group and more specifically a private member who wish not be named. We have tested this working 100% for players running box armies of 12+ zoning simultaneously with no zone drops or crashes, this is now running live with the update.

Rain of Fear (2) Steam F2P Client Now Working & Released:
  • Thanks to in majority work by Trevius from the EQEmulator team, and various others of us. The F2P client from Steam is now available to play/use on EZ and I recommend everyone update to it and start testing it for their own sakes for the performance, memory usage and stability alone. This client is far better than UF. I need everyone to start adopting the mentality of making this client the new normal.

  • Bugs or Issues: Please report them to this same news thread if you find any issues with this client. Keep your UF client incase you need to fallback to using it because of some issue you ran into. If you are crashing and you have no idea why, send an E-Mail to akkadius@live.com or post on this thread your logs/dbg.txt file from your EQ Directory and what you were doing to crash.

You will need to install the Steam application, and download the client through it. You would then move or copy the Everquest folder it downloads to wherever you want to save it (I normally call mine something like Everquest_RoF2). Then, edit the eqhosts.txt file and create a shortcut to the eqgame.exe file with the patchme argument the same as normal. Steam should have stored Everquest in a folder similar to this:
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\EverQuest

This download is still considered RoF Expansion, but it is a different patch (about 6 months later). If everything goes well, I am hoping for this client version to be the new standard for EQEmu to replace Underfoot. We are calling it the "RoF2" client. Even if you don't switch over to it immediately (while it is still be developed), I highly recommend everyone get in now in case SOE decides to patch the version that has been on Steam since May 10th 2013.

Hmm wont lemme get past character select screen not sure what I did wrong, downloaded all the new files etc > Works fine till I get to character select but when I try to log into my character eqclient crashes.
neways here is what I found when I searched dbq not sure if its what u need but /shrug

Here's what I did when setting this up lemme know if I missed something >

1)Downloaded rf2 from steam
2)Moved rf2 eq folder to a place outside of steam (ssd hard drive)
3)Moved EZ server files and EZ spell files into new rf2 everquest file
4)Changed eqhost as per eqemulator's instructions
5)I'm runnin through eqwin so didn't bother to do patchme stuff

Did you run the optioneditor.exe to set graphics card etc?

Try without eqwin, just do a shortcut with the patchme added, and try again, without eqwin

Yah reset options it helped I could get it to run OUTSIDE of wineq, still not working with wineq tho.  mmm clicky from bag ... /drools

**EDIT** Managed to get wineq to work hadda go into win eq file folder and totally remove old profiles instead of just modifying destination folder for old one >> and made a fresh new profile for tank AND bam it works... >.> don't ask me why but yah

Hmm aug's seem a lil messed up wont let you put more than 1 of same in armor (and yes I know how to bypass that, its in top slot) Have anguish boots, with a rank 7 heroic aug in bottom slot, and then 2 rank 6's in top two slots. took out the very top most augment and now it wont go back in cause it says I have 2 of same aug in there.  Tried to do it in old augment sealer then but that doesn't seem to function anymore.

Additionally its not letting me put link from anything in inventory inside hotbars atm.  Armor, top inventory slots, stuff in bags nothing is linkin to hotbar so I can setup clickies.

(and pls don't take all these posts as whining or nothing hate/akka :) i'm just excited....  ;D )

   I have been working all night trying to get this resolved. I can get one or two toons in then the rest start crashing at the char select screen. It doesn't matter if they had logged on to the server in this client before or not.
   Some times i can't even get one to load in. I haven't changed the folder at all except to change the host and add the required files. I have also redownloaded the folder to make sure it wasn't my copy. When I am in server it looks and runs well. but getting past the server select is dicey at best.

Prob will be some on EQInterface, I like mine clean, and game window as clear as possible

New Inv window, modified to show plat and HP better

is there anyway someone could get this download package, idk, put somewhere else?

DLing from steamwhatever is ehhhh

any possibility someone could take on that project, to streamline it as much as possible, I think it would make this move from one client to the next easier for everyone

Loaded RoF2, sever and spell files. 

When I try to sell to vendors, they give me the price for the item like normal, but when i click sell... the sell box grays out, but the item doesn't sell, and no plats are given to me.  After the failed transaction, I can't target NPCs with cursor, use keyboard shortcuts (ie hit i for inventory) or click items.  I can still type in chat box, /tar npcs, etc.  I have to either zone or relog to get those functions back. 

I also tried buying from vendor, which did work... but I had the same result as before when trying to sell that freshly purchased item back to vendor.  Anyone else having this issue or have any ideas what might be causing it?

If it's the same crash Akka sent me a log of, it looks to be from something wrong in the PP causing the client to crash.

Does this new client let you use a mount without the movement rates. Immediate run vs. accelerating and decelerating slowly?

Having the same issue as Kard. Also the client doesn't register me as having any of the expansions. I can't go into most zones. For example if i attempt to go to city of mist, it boots me back to the glade and says I don't have the required expansion to enter that zone. Anyone else have that issue? I don't think i missed anything on setting up the client.

well after hours of setting everything up, seems im all set. Went pretty smoothly except for Extended target just flat out not working properly. no targets show up in window and cant select any options for targets (i.e. auto, current target, targets target, etc) and if you somehow hide the window then the hotkey will not bring it back up, you have to manually edit your UI .ini file for it to re-appear. Testing was was done with default ui.

some amazing features so far, pretty pumped about playing around with everything :)

exit game and open "UI_CharName_EZ (Linux) x4 Exp" and search for "extended" then for the first line under it, change the show=0 to show=1. its the only way ive found to bring the window back up

Just tested and it works fine using /casting "itemname"

Just messed around with it again and seems to actually work with equipped items and items in your inventory (but not in bags). Soon as i put the item in a bag the /casting command doesn't work.

oh well, better then nothing :)

I downloaded it from steam... then i downloaded the ROF MQ ...installed..run as admin ...starting game with wineq i get a bunch of errors about wineq not seeing client and mq2 says its wrong client...game loads fine I just cant use mq or wineq

starting a new hotkey in wineq got rid of that error...can we delete the old ones? have to start from blank....mq2 still says wrong client..i will redowload it again
 

should we download rof or rof2 from mq site?

ROF2 worked....

thanks for...um....reading?:)

it would appear that if 2 files in wineq are of the same name...lets say toontank(oldclient) and toontank(newclient) if you make a shortcut in wineq it will start both with 1 click...going to test if you can basically name all of your clients the same in wineq then start all of your toons with 1 shortcut...not going to lie..that would be awesome

Client runs smooth, for the most part. However....a few issues that pop out:

1) Cannot sell to vendor. When you try to the sell button grays out and you are locked out of most types interaction: cannot sell to any vendor or right/left click items. Happens with or without MQ2 running.

2) Extended Target Window doesnt seem to work, any UI, no matter what we do. Happens with or without MQ2.

3) Aforementioned run speed issues

you put in & take out augs directly from the item link now but since you cant use the distiller trick to juggle augs, theres no way to use duplicates in 1 item :(

Side issue, is mq2autologin broken in the rof compile from here (http://mqemulator.net/downloads.php)?  Trying to set up a new batch file and crash whenever I load the plugin.

Also messed around with the aug removal and found out removing epic augs replaces the aug slot with a buy now button.  It won't let me put the augs back in.

I will check out the Runspeed and Extended Targets issues.

As mentioned, augmenting does not work the same as before.  No more need for the aug pool as aug slots on items stats window have slots similar to a bag that you can just drop an aug into.  This is a pretty awesome feature and makes aug management must easier.  You do still need to have distillers in your inventory to remove augments.

Akkadius mentioned that you guys were reporting issues with making item Hotkeys.  As far as I know, the old client functionality is still available for making slot based hotkeys for clickies and such.  The new clients have a new feature that maps hotkeys to a specific item instead of a slot, and will follow that item around if you move it.  You can still create a slot based hotkey by holding ALT, then hold left click on the slot that you want to make a hotkey for.  At some point, we will get the item based hotkey stuff working, but at least the old functionality is still available in the mean-time.

I am not sure why you are getting the buy now button on items after you removed an epic aug.  What aug slot type is it?  I need  more info so I can test and figure it out.  I am guessing it is something in the item header that would cause that buy now button to show up.

I am also not sure about the reported "String Not Found (5362)" issue at character select, as I have not seen that yet.

One thing I did not see you reference is 2 like aug failure.
With the old system let's assume we have 3 like augs, heroic resist stone III. If you wanted to have all like augs in an item, you would have to put 2 place holder augs in the top 2 slots then insert the hrIII. You would then remove the middle slot aug and insert the 2nd hrIII. Rinse and repeat for the last and top aug. If you did not use a place holder in the top 2 slots, the hrIII would tak the top slot and not allow the same aug to be placed in the 2nd or 3rd slot. A poster above said with the new system they could not aug same augs together.

Edit. I just confirmed, you get the error "you cannot place two duplicate gems in the same item"
I tried different variations and same error.

Darn looks like i'll actually have to download it, was hoping that the copy of my eq folder from October 2013 would work but nope, black screen after selecting ezserver

for long term, this is going to be an issue for paladins and berserkers since they still use 2 firestrikes in their mainhand and to a lesser extent warriors with anger augs. im assuming the aug trick cannot be put back in the game since it seemed a "bug" or maybe an oversight in the last client, i think this is just one thing that will stop many people from upgrading their clients anytime soon. might just be easier to rebalance strike augs for Firestrike users so they only need to use 1? granted that would mean everyone has to throw away 1 FS aug but meh, might be necessary moving forward....thoughts?

It may be easier to do that for sure, should apply to hr augs too. You can just combine and use diff hr augs otherwise.
Should also double the dps for icestrike augs too since melee can use 2 per weapon.

I would also wait for a solution on this before swapping over completely.

I am not sure why you are getting the buy now button on items after you removed an epic aug.  What aug slot type is it?  I need  more info so I can test and figure it out.  I am guessing it is something in the item header that would cause that buy now button to show up.

Epic is slot type 21.  The mouse hover tip on the Buy Now button says to click to open marketplace to purchase special ornamentation ability.  Shows this on default UI with MQ2 unloaded also.

One thing I did not see you reference is 2 like aug failure.
With the old system let's assume we have 3 like augs, heroic resist stone III. If you wanted to have all like augs in an item, you would have to put 2 place holder augs in the top 2 slots then insert the hrIII. You would then remove the middle slot aug and insert the 2nd hrIII. Rinse and repeat for the last and top aug. If you did not use a place holder in the top 2 slots, the hrIII would tak the top slot and not allow the same aug to be placed in the 2nd or 3rd slot. A poster above said with the new system they could not aug same augs together.

Edit. I just confirmed, you get the error "you cannot place two duplicate gems in the same item"
I tried different variations and same error.

Yes, that sounds like an exploit from what I can tell and I see no reason to support an exploit from a previous client.  More likely, we should fix the exploit in the older clients as well!  If you are using augments as intended on the server, then the people managing the content should adjust the augs in question to work in a legit way instead of requiring an exploit/bug.  It sounds like there are already a few suggested solutions to this from the server side of things by simply making variations of these augs.

Epic is slot type 21.  The mouse hover tip on the Buy Now button says to click to open marketplace to purchase special ornamentation ability.  Shows this on default UI with MQ2 unloaded also.

That was my guess for the slot type that was causing this problem.  Slot 20 and 21 are for Ornamentation and Special Ornamentation.  Since Ornamentations are now supported in the newest source, I would recommend moving the augs that use these slot types to another slot type.  I discuss it fairly thoroughly in this thread:

Though, those slot types should (in theory) be fine to use for other augs without getting that buy now button.  I haven't seen that button show up after using these on my server yet, but I think I only tried slot 20, not 21 so far.  I will do some more testing on it and see if I can resolve whatever issue that is.

2) Extended Target Window doesnt seem to work, any UI, no matter what we do. Happens with or without MQ2.

3) Aforementioned run speed issues

I have fixed the Extended Target Window in the latest source updates from today. 

I am not clear on the run speed issue yet, because I am not sure what you are referring to.  Using SoE and SoW seem to increase run speed fine.  Are the speed clickies you are referring do something other than a run speed buff?  I don't think I have tried bard songs yet for run speed, so maybe that is it?

The run speed is EZ server specific, one of the special clickies gives a 155% speed buff.  Should be somewhere in the server's spell file.

Well the easier thing to do would be double the dmg on strike augs and have only 1 slot avail on weapons. HR could be doubled as well.

Doubling augs on EZ isnt an exploit.....or wasnt. Weapons here are set to allow or disallow multiple augs of the same type.

Trying to get WinEQ to work with RoF2 / MQ2, MQ2 isn't showing loading for some reason. Wondering if Im missing something. I can load MQ2 w/the client w/out wineq w/out a problems. Not sure whats up.

Yeah double ice and Fire. I think HR could stay the same or you could triple them and make them slot specific but that would probably take work on the armor and not worth the effort.

Rez also isn't working with me. I get the rezzed box but when I click ok nothing happens. Extended target window wasn't populating for me as of a half hour ago but maybe just need to reload. Love the idea of making a and b augs and such, maybe just a free a/b/c piece you can combine with any augs to make it an a/b/c.

Not really a client issue but can we look to fix mobs from going in walls and underground in ToV. They get an erection for my healers.

Noticed a few things.

1) Using WinEQ takes so much more CPU than just running boxes independently

2) Main box starts at 75 ms. After first pull of 10 or so jumps to 115. After second pull i hit 375 and start to desync. I have all those previous options enabled I did in UF and doesn't do that in UF. So I dunno

I am hoping this is just some bug related to the Extended Targets being messed up.  If the wrong packets were being sent, it might have been causing the client to do something weird and lag worse and worse as you aggro'd more mobs.  Try it again once EZ has the Extended Targets fix in and let us know if you still have the same issue.  If so, I will see if I can reproduce it and figure it out.

I also fixed the guild rank message when zoning/logging in with today's updates.

I am close to having the cursor buffer fixed, but it still needs more work before I can put out the update.

Was able to duplicate the buy now button for aug slot 21.  I am still looking into it, but am guessing it is related to the membership packets.  If I can't figure it out, I bet Secrets can :P

I am still not clear on the runspeed issue.  Sounds like a custom spell file, and maybe you didn't update RoF2 with the EZ custom spell file yet?

No....if he hadnt updated the spell file on the client....well, pretty much nothing would work. Any real content here is custom, and without the spell file the effects would be.....interesting. Such as, instead of clicking for a group cure, you attempt to port to Crescent reach and end up crashing to desktop :D

  • Issue with slow not clearing when cured has been resolved, thanks to demonstar55 and Natedog with the help of troubleshooting and fixing
  • Guild Ranks no longer send on zone-in, fixed by both demonstar55 and Trevius
  • RoF: Extended Target Window should be working again thanks to Trevius
  • RoF: Selling to Merchants should be working again thanks to Trevius

Yea, I will need to know that this has been confirmed fixed before I even consider loading ROF2.  I have the clicky cure written into about 4 or 5 of the buttons I use while fighting.  It would suck to have toons zoning/dropping while I'm trying to buff, pull or even have my toons follow me.   LoL

That isn't related to RoF/RoF2 specifically.  That was a global change to how temp pets work.  I think the easiest solution is to have the NPC's Runspeed set to 0.

Two more issues I have found:

1) Cannot rez a character with RoF.

2) Also cannot hand a pet anything. When you try its as if the pet isnt there. In fact....cannot mouse target pet at all.

Rez is fixed in the latest updates from today.

I am not sure about the pet thing yet.  Though, I do know there are new options in the options menu that allow you to set click through for self, merc, and maybe other stuff.  Sounds like that is what is happening.  Will need to test that more, or get more details.

Thanks Trev, I remembered that just after I posted it.....looked for the option and couldnt find it. Turns out my UI doesnt have that option in Options :D

But going back to default UI a sec and clicking it off let me give my pet a pearl necklace.

Noticed a new thing in the option menu that let's you click through pets and self.  If this is checked you won't be able to click target a pet.  Might prevent you from opening a trade window also.

oh great, cause you know, I've only done a thousand things since ROF released......

although, what I have not done is screw with my UF client folders, at all.

I first noticed the run speed thing when I first loaded up ROF, so when I went back to UF the run speed was fine. I haven't played much since then, today I went to actually play and noticed the run speed issue on UF

Only one I know is the Me.Speed function in macroquest
Tested it on My hud on UF and Rof, both the same

No buffs - only AA run speed - speed = 200
T6 Chimera mount - speed = 250
Fastest travel click - speed = 255

so clicks are working, Possibly server side cap added?
Although I havnt used before, so no previous reference, tbh, I havnt seen a big noticeable diff myself

Also looked at Bazaar, and yes no functions currently working there, just shows "All Traders", or "Local Traders" in Trader drop down box
when actual traders in there

Yes, that is a known issue with RoF and will probably be one of the last things that gets fixed on RoF2.  This is because the trader system was completely overhauled since UF.  It now uses a system that you can access from any zone.  It will be a really cool system once implemented, but it is complicated and will take a good amount of work I think.

The arrow thing is probably related to some recent changes to how projectiles work.  That would be the same for all clients, not just RoF2.

I posted a video of my problem. Seems I am literally the only one having this String not found 5362 error. Anyway, can log into the server but cant choose an existing character. I can make a new character but after about 2 minutes it kicks that toon out while spamming ERROR: String not found 5362!

As stated previously,mq2autologin plugin doesn't seem to work with RoF, the compile is for the correct client but when you try to load the plugin you get the following in the mq2 window:

Error: dwEQMainBase pattern
Plugin 'mq2autologin' loaded.

Once the plugin is loaded, you won't be able to load characters in with wineq2 let alone normal login without unloading the plugin.  Perhaps the error listed means something to you coder types and you can get a chance to look into it.

I dont use autologin, so I cant help ya there :(

One question I did have.....

Set up my skinny client for RoF, and ran all the client changes from Blarr's guide. I noticed a big diff in lag between running RoF and UF.....far laggier for me running skinnies on RoF than UF. I figured it was due to not being able to use Blarr's test.dll.

Anyone else noticed this, and how did you fix it (if ya did)?

If the essence is falling in a slot below the normal slots it may not let you loot, i had this same issue with gls.  Anything in slot 9 or beyond would not loot.  Destroy stuff prior to it, try to loot again so it does not hide the corpse but makes you drop target and then loot again.  Item should appear in a higher slot and be lootable

Some asked for it, wasnt hard to do. Has the advantage of being, typically, FAR faster than the torrents....at least has been for me.

And the reason why I broke it up is the same reason we did before.....some people's ISP didnt like the "big chunk" file.

As I mentioned in another thread I've been doing the Christmas thing, I've not been at home.

Few things

Rez (RoF) - Fixed but needs to be applied to server
Minis/Expeditions - I need a few hours to take care of bringing those alive, I plan to address them tonight, we'll see if something gets in the way.
Client Crashes (Expletus) - That information doesn't help me much since I'm not setup to reverse memory addresses of where the client crashed, I need you to post your logs/dbg.txt RIGHT after you experience a crash

In summary, any other issues as I've mentioned before we will work through and get tackled, not that worried about it.
