HP G7 here, quad core, 6gb ram, windows 8. Runs fine, I run WinEQ2, MQ2, and EQBC, all on admin just to make sure I dont have any issues.

Biggest thing you can do, since windows 8 doesnt have a start bar, is install the 'Classic Shell' Start Bar. It gives you the start bar like you are used to Smiley

I have 0 issues with windows 8. Built my own machine. There is a desktop button on the default start screen that swaps to a classic desktop look. No need to add or do anything special.

Thanks for all the reply ...

I'm currently running Widows XP and can only run a max of 5 toon at once at the best of times... with bit of issues and crashing ...so i run 4 most of the time.

I will be starting T5 soon and would like to upgrade so i can run at lease 6 toons.

my problem is, I know enough about computers to get me into trouble, but not enough to get me out ... lol

Anything in particular or specs i should be looking for? I was budgeting between $1000 to $1500 max for a desk top / CPU

thanks

I spent about 500 on a desktop / ram / motherboard / power supply / case. had a decent video card I just swapped in from my old computer, same deal with hard drive (ended up adding 2 ssds later on).  1k-1500 would get you a super computer. I'd check out newegg and microcenter, have had 0 issues with both.

I think you can get away with about half that budget.  I probably only have about $800 in my current PC and can run 12 toons comfortably and 18 with some latency.  The key is not OS .. it's RAM.

I bought a low end HP box from Best Buy for under $500.  Had them install a 600w power supply for $75.  I installed a mid grade Video card for $80 and 8GB more RAM (I do NOT remember how much it was, but it was inexpensive).

The power supply in off the shelf PCs seems to fail more often than not in my case.  Your mileage may vary.  If you get a box that can handle the power requirements for say.. 12 GB ram and whatever vid card you install you may get by without upgrading the power supply. My experience says do the upgrade and avoid the eventual shutdown that comes from maxing out the power handling capabilities of the supply sold with the PC.  Just do a bit of math before you start stacking acceories.
