Ok well i tried it with a differnt install of UF same issue also killed pets same issue. tried running with fewer same issue. possible the train code is checking everyone at once flooding the server with omg he has more than 5 mobs lets lag him till he dies ?

edit
I think the biggest issue is if you have more than 1 person in the zone with a few toons the lag is unplayable meaning that noone can group. can we maybe get a test and see if the train code is the problem and work on resolving this instead of everyone just saying meh it will get fixed when it gets fixed

Could we run the server for a couple week without the train code to test?

Edit: or a test on the other tweaks that have been made too. I used to run 13 in here no problem. Heck wulfgaur was in the same GI with me on a single client and couldn't function. If it wasn't for that i'd still be thinking it was client side

i did a run with just 6.. zone was "normal" 92 ms ping, no out of normal lag. have 13 in for 2nd run .. unplayable lag.

is there some sort of connection count, or max number of connections or similar per zone? could be the connection count lost a 0 or two, restricting the flow of data. similar to a tcp flood in effect

I've actually had almost ALL scripts turned off in T5-T9 lately except for the AA per hour and the T8 npc cast spells timer. I didn't want to tell anyone that I turned off the scripts in case people decide it would be a good time to afk bot the zones. I reserve the right to flip the switch to turn on certain scripts again if I get a feeling people are botting again. I don't check every zone, ie I don't think Nexus needs to be monitored for AA per hour.

I realize the lag started around the same time I started the scripts, but those scripts are off right now. So moving forward...

The ONLY script running really is the AA per hour, which checks your AA every 15 min, 60 min, and when you zone. It does this by comparing 2 values in memory. It doesn't log to the database unless you meet X amount of AA per hour when it does a check.

T8 has special script for npc to cast spells on a timer as some are aware. These npcs (as of a week ago) will no longer even start to cast AoE until you engage them. Only npc that are in combat will have timer running to cast spells.

Not sure why T5/T6 are lagging.

Hateborne and myself tested this. Logged in a full group, and killed a small train. Mean while I observed (and recorded) the debug logs, and viewed the RAM being used for the zone(s). Everything was normal, and both of us never got any additional lag or ping added. Nothing was lagging, no debug errors, nothing.

I'm starting to think that the few of you that have problems, is a problem client side. Maybe custom spell, spell particles, combat filter, MQ2 plugin, client type, global model file, etc.

We did this testing just before midnight eastern, so the server has been booted up for a while, and we still got no lag.

Will continue to search for the cause of the lag that a few people are getting. So far we're running out of ideas.

Will see if there is any other EVENT_TIMER stuff going on, and if we need to stoptimer settimer each time to prevent the same timer from being redundantly created. So that is what next reboot will test, if timers fixed anything.

Thing is....move to another zone and there's NO lag, even when mass pulling with 2 man raid and 18+ characters. I get the lag even when making a new instance in that zone....new instance doesnt fix the issue. With 2 people in zone, even with a handful of characters in zone, desync is a major factor.

When I see lag in T6 I can ping pretty much anywhere at my normal 20 to 40 ms and get a steady 50 meg up and down. I can literally log in to Rift while 12 characters are loaded in T6 and lagging to hell and see absolutely no delay in Rift.

Again, its (for me anyway) mainly just T6 and ToFS, occasionally T5 and HoH....and its always worse (WAY worse) when there's another player in zone, even if its just 1 full group and killing 3 to 5 at a time.

For the MySQL experts out there...

I checked out the my.ini file for mysql.

How high should this be set to:
max_connections=

Probably would require reboot whole machine if I edit this.

Assuming that we're not running low on RAM (server-side), you could increase it by roughly 20% for a week to see if that does anything. I have a creeping suspicion that the EQEMU code will not truly utilize it, but it is definitely worth a shot.

If memory serves, default value is 100 so you could try 120-150 as a new value.

I doubled that and immediate results of less lag has been reported. Although I also edited timers and other quest stuff, so I'm not sure which fixed it.

My lag over the last 3 days has been reduced to unplaybe to only about 1 toon disconnects so much improvement if it is the max connections can we get just a light bump to ~225

T8 is bad again, went to do a clear at about 5cst and took about 5 mins before the first 6 mobs updated hp to show as dead.

After about 30 mins, seems lag is subsiding and updates are stabilizing.
