I have run 9 easily and loaded up 12 with an Intel Pentium Dual E2220 @ 2.40GHz. That is a processor rated 1379 whereas the Q6600 is rated at 2966. With enough ram you should be able to load up 12+ on that processor.

Yea essentially boxing multiple instances of EQ is different from most games because most of them don't require a great deal of RAM or VRAM (video RAM) at all but when you run more and more instances of EQ, it eats it right up.

Xiggie - I don't go all minimalistic when i load my chars. I don't turn off every effect and don't mess with NPC models...

How does everyone load their chars to make sure they are set on minimum settings but the main char is set to max settings. Do you have two separate clients you load or can you simply make two shortcuts and have one max settings and one minimum to reduce box lag?

You use two folders.  One launches a max settings UI and the other folder contains a link to a stripped down UI.

So I would copy the entire everquest folder and make a duplicate, and launch the eqgame from the duplicate and strip it down while the original folder remains max settings?

Even still you would run out of ram way before you ran out of processor. I just loaded up 6 toons on my full global, new models and all. Using about 90% of my ram and about 25% of my processor. Granted my processor is stronger but even with the E2220 I was running about 65% idle and about 90% if I zoned everyone at once. That processor is a hell of a lot slower than yours. Your processor should not be maxing out with 6 toons, even if you zone them all at the same time while running minecraft and 15 browsers in the background. Ram on the other hand, yeah, a fat global will run you out of ram at 6 toons.

Btw, that was 25% max, if I am doing nothing it flows down to as low as 15%.

I apreciate all the feedback guys, i Have been outa the computer scene b4 dualcores came out (bout 5or6 years) and AGP was the best for Grafx cards, so this info has helped ALOT.

I have no real intention of playing any of the new games comming out, so EQ is my old addiction and with eqemu its something i can start and stop if i want. When i did play if your wanted to 2 box you had 2 computers, 3 toons 3 computers. So its kinda nice to be able to go this route.

Now time to go shopping, and though it looks like new eggs is cheaper, i like to support my local comp shops as long as they dont try and shaft me.

So, hi ho hi ho off to the shop i go!  Grin

Each of my chars has it's own folder with files. So no interference from multiple processes trying to access the same file and arguing about it.

Q9660, 4gigs of 1ghz ram, windows 7 professional x64, gigabyte ep41 mobo, nvidia gtx 560 ti oc, 250gb SSD for system and 1 TB stripped and mirrored main hard drive.

I can load about.. 12 toons without noticing any weirdness.

I'm getting 8gigs when I can find a Mushkin reseller in my country.

How are you loading up 12 characters on 4 gigs of ram? And what is "4gigs of 1ghz ram"?

Most local shops will unfortunately be a little higher in price. There is a Microcenter not too far from my house and they actually have very good prices on some things, cheaper than newegg sometimes. However, if you have no clue what you really need they sometimes have a good tech guy, but it depends on the place. I ordered half of mine on new egg and the other half im buying from the store.
