After PL-ing a chanter I was told via ooc that Charm has been disabled on the server. Anyone know why it was disabled? Any chance that it will be reactivated?
Thanks,

I believe mobs were charming people in LDON and screwing up their play. Making pets poof, tanks attacking their boxed alts, etc. Here is the thread: http://ezserver.online/forums/index.php?topic=147.msg816#msg816

I believe there is an exploit with charmed mobs that allows duping of items.

My mistake... thought you meant getting charmed by mobs... All charming was removed because of the exploit I guess...

Interesting. I wonder how that worked exactly. Can anyone else shed some more light on this topic? Seems extreme to remove Charm server-wide.

I don't know how it works and I doubt anyone that does know is going to say on here at all. But how is it extreme? There is a bug that allows duping of items using charmed mobs, unless the bug can be fixed the logical and reasonable solution is to remove charm. Otherwise you end up with a server destroyed instead of a server with no charm.

I think it's extreme because it takes away a class defining ability, and I'd wager that others agree since barely anyone is playing a chanter on this server. How about making select non-quest NPCs charmable instead of making all NPCs immune to charm? For example... make the giants in BOT charmable, and trash in Dulak, PoTime and Qvic, etc. Keep all else immune if it's too much work to reactivate charm server-wide and cherry pick NPCs for immunity.

You allow any one mob to be charmed, that mob will be used to dupe stuff i would wager

Reed echoed what I said, that is the whole point. Being able to dupe items would ruin the entire server, whereas taking away charm limits bards and enchanters. To compensate they put the casters guild pet ring as usable by bards and enchanters. Not being able to charm is relatively new. I have been on this server for over a year and I have seen less than 5 enchanters the entire time. Ruining a server so 2 highly underused classes can use a highly underused (for legit reasons anyway) spell just makes no sense. It would be extreme to allow charming so a hand full of toons could charm at the expense of the server.

Exploit is long fixed regarding this.
It would be perfectly fine to re-implement charm.

When was this fixed? I didn't see it in the change log text. Maybe left out on purpose I guess. Confirmed? Safe to put in charm again?
